LOST FILES: INTERVIEW WITH TONY GOMEZ - LA FLOR DOMINICANA – Video Recap | My Cigar Pack

When I think about La Flor Dominicana and everything it represents, the first word that comes to mind is pride. Not marketing pride. Not surface-level pride. The kind of pride that comes from years of work, responsibility, sacrifice, and showing up every single day knowing that what you are building carries a family name and a history that matters.

This year marks 25 years for La Flor Dominicana, and that milestone means everything to me. In this industry, reaching that point is the highest summit you can claim. It is not easy to stay relevant, consistent, and respected for a quarter of a century, especially in premium cigars. Being part of that journey, and being involved in the creation of the cigars themselves, is something I do not take lightly. Helping my father achieve this is one of the most meaningful accomplishments of my life.

A Brand Shaped by Eras, Not Moments

When I look back at the history of La Flor Dominicana, I see it in chapters rather than a straight line. There is a clear before and after. The impact of certain releases reshaped how the brand was perceived, how people talked about us, and how we were positioned within the industry. That kind of moment changes everything. It is not just about success. It is about transformation.

Those shifts remind me that cigar brands are living things. They evolve. They respond. They grow through experience. The impact we have had over the years did not come from standing still. It came from pushing forward, sometimes taking risks, and always believing in the work.

Never Getting Comfortable

One thing I am very clear about is this, we cannot rest on our laurels. Yes, we have accomplished a lot. The last few years have been strong. But comfort is dangerous in this business. The moment you stop trying to innovate, to create, to challenge yourself, you start moving backward.

That is not acceptable to me.

There are always things happening behind the scenes. There are always ideas being tested, refined, and sometimes scrapped entirely. That is part of the process. Moving forward means staying uncomfortable enough to keep learning.

What Lies Ahead

Without getting into details that are not meant to be shared yet, there are several projects in the works that I am genuinely excited about. The 25th anniversary is obviously a major focus. When you see what we have planned, you will know immediately that it is something special. It reflects not just where we are now, but how far we have come.

Beyond that, there is also a petite release coming later this year. It is intense. Purposeful. Built to make a statement in a smaller format. That project represents our willingness to explore different expressions without diluting identity.

We are also working toward a small cigar lineup, packaged in tens, featuring various blends. This is part of a broader plan to offer more accessible experiences while still respecting the craft and intention behind each cigar. It is about giving smokers options without sacrificing integrity.

On Inspiration and Creativity

Inspiration is a strange thing. It does not always come when you ask for it. It floats around in the air, and when it passes by, you grab it. That applies to cigar making just as much as it applies to life. Nothing inspires me in isolation. Everything does. Conversations, mistakes, moments, pressure. You learn to stay open to it.

There is no formula for creativity in this industry. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying. What matters is being receptive and honest about what you want to express.

Personal Preferences and Honest Limitations

I have always had a particular affinity for the Lancero format. It is my favorite cigar. In an ideal world, I would make a lot more of them. But reality matters. Tobacco availability matters. Sourcing enough of the right material is not always possible, and I would rather make fewer cigars the right way than flood the market with something that does not meet our standards.

That philosophy applies across the board. Just because something is popular does not mean it should be forced. Just because something can be made does not mean it should be.

Humor, Humanity, and Perspective

Cigar culture can take itself too seriously sometimes. I have never believed that you need to strip away humor or personality to be respected. Mistakes happen. I have tried to box a professional boxer despite not being one myself. That ended exactly how you would expect.

Life is messy. So is this industry. The key is not pretending otherwise.

At the end of the day, cigars are meant to be enjoyed. They are meant to bring people together. They are meant to create moments, not egos.

Looking Forward With Intention

La Flor Dominicana exists because of passion, family, and a refusal to become complacent. Twenty-five years is not the end of the road. It is a checkpoint. What matters more than where we have been is where we are going.

There is still work to do. Still ideas to chase. Still standards to protect.

And as long as that remains true, the journey continues.
