LFD La Flor Dominicana - Tony Gomez - PCA 2024

On this occasion, we had the opportunity to share with Tony Gomez (of la Flor Dominicana) He collaborates with his father Litto to innovate the La Flor Dominicana brand while upholding his father's exacting standards of excellence. At thirty-one, he works primarily at the La Flor Dominicana plant in the Dominican Republic or on the La Canela farm, which produces the majority of the tobacco used in La Flor Dominicana cigars.

 Candela Wrappers

Tony shares his first experience with cigars, and during the conversation, several interesting details about the manufacturing process and popular cigars from Tabacalera La Flor (LFD) come to light.

The first type of cigar to be highlighted is La Flor Dominicana Double Claro, which includes candela wrappers. But what are these candela wrappers based on? These leaf wrappers are delectable, delicate creations that provide flavors unmatched by any other. If you go back a few decades, Candela was the most widely used wrapper available. There are three cigar sizes available:

• No. 42: 42 x 5.5

• No. 48: 48 x 6.875

• Number 50: 5 x 50

La Flor Dominicana LFD Double Claro No. 48 cigars received an 88-point rating from Cigar Aficionado.

Reserva Especial and Other High-End Products

During this highly interesting PCA meeting, our new Reserva Especial package was discussed (this is an ultra high-end tier. Membership is very limited.) This package includes exclusive and limited high-end cigars. Tony mentions a few cigars that would be considerable for this package:

• La Flor Dominicana Andalusian Bull

Cigar Aficionado ranked the La Flor Dominicana Andalusian Bull cigar as the best cigar of 2016. It may now be the world's most sought-after cigar due to its rise in popularity since then. The LFD Andalusian Bull box of ten is made by just two expert Master Rollers, making it the most sought-after cigar available for purchase

• La Flor Dominicana Oro

The Oro Tubo packaging perfectly captures the strength, nuance, and smoothness of this cigar on the outside. The wrapper for the Nicaraguan Habano Sun Grown line, which is taken from the tobacco plant's upper primings, gives the cigars in the Oro line more taste and power.

• La Flor Dominicana TCFKA M

The acronym TCFKAM represents "The Cigar Formerly Known As Mysterio." These cigars come in boxes containing five and are available in a single size, a 7" x 55 Perfecto. The Connecticut Shade wrapper of the Ligero TCFKA M 2016 cigars is accented with Broadleaf Maduro. Estate-grown Dominican tobacco is used in the blend to provide a medium-bodied smoke with exceptional tastes.

Behind all these incredible and unique creations, Tony comments that the greatest motivation for creating them is the art involved in crafting the products, the creativity of the process, and the visual beauty that accompanies the unique experience of each cigar.

Astrology Ashtray

In addition to the cigar mentions, we also had the opportunity to learn a bit about the incredible and attractive Astrology Ashtrays. La Flor Dominicana Ashtronomy Ashtrays are designed, molded, and meticulously crafted in their dedicated lab in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Litto Gomez has devoted nearly a year to this project, refining and perfecting each piece with exceptional attention to detail. Using a liquid mica mixture, they create various shapes and unique color combinations, turning each piece into a functional work of art that enhances any home or office.

Instead of releasing them all at once, LFD will spotlight each colorway through periodic small batch releases, giving each its moment to shine. We can say that it has been exciting to share and learn origin details with Tony Gomez.
