Ferio Tego Summa Cigar Review
Ferio Tego’s journey started with a mission to carry forward the legacy of Nat Sherman after its closure during the COVID-19 pandemic. Michael Herklots and Brendon Scott, who previously led Nat Sherman, took the opportunity to preserve the legacy of the brand’s premium cigars. In 2021, they launched Ferio Tego, reintroducing the Timeless and Metropolitan cigars alongside two new lines, Generoso and Elegancia. Both were well-received, setting high expectations for what would come next.
Enter the Ferio Tego Summa, their first regular-production cigar that’s completely original. Introduced at the PCA 2023 trade show, it’s a blend meant to represent the diversity of the Ferio Tego portfolio. The name "Summa" reflects its purpose: a synthesis of the work the brand has accomplished so far.

The Process Behind The Cigar
The Summa is crafted at the Quesada family’s Tabacos de Exportación factory in the Dominican Republic, continuing the longstanding partnerships established by Nat Sherman. This factory is known for producing high-quality cigars, and the Summa is no exception.
Construction & Appearance
The Summa is sleek without feeling delicate, and it sits nicely in the hand. The triple cap is neat, and the wrapper has a rich color, similar to medium-roast coffee beans. Subtle veins and a few natural lumps give it character, while the seams are clean and tight. Squeezing the cigar reveals a firm but springy construction, although the foot seemed a bit underfilled.
On the nose, the wrapper gave off hints of root beer candy and faint mineral notes, while the foot smelled of damp wood, wet soil, and semi-sweet chocolate. After cutting, the pre-light draw brought out nutmeg, molasses bread, and more of that damp hardwood aroma.
Inside The Cigar & Flavor Profile
From the first puff, the Summa delivers a mix of cocoa powder and coffee with a boozy twist, like Kahlúa. It’s not overly sweet, leaning more toward bitter chocolate and espresso. Through the retrohale, there’s a gentle spice, but it’s mostly smooth with notes of espresso powder and coffee-soaked rum.
The burn line stays clean, producing solid, light ash that holds steady. The draw offers just the right amount of resistance, pulling medium-bodied smoke with a chewy texture that clings to the palate.
As it burns past the two-inch mark, the flavor profile shifts. Toasty notes of charred oak mix with subtle anise before things take a sweeter turn. It starts tasting like gingersnap cookies dunked in rum, with hints of bread pudding, chocolate fudge, and anise cookies adding complexity. At this point, the flavors are medium-full, with the body and strength both sitting at a solid medium-plus.
Each puff transitions smoothly. Sweet flavors hit first, followed by toasted wood and mineral notes on the finish. The retrohale remains soft, with nutmeg and ginger adding just a touch of spice. By the final third, you start noticing a darker, richer character. Notes of root beer and cream give way to gooey textures, like anise syrup and dark chocolate, making for a bold and satisfying finale.
Your Next Cigar
The Ferio Tego Summa feels like a culmination of everything the brand has worked toward. It’s not quite as refined as the Elegancia or as sweetly balanced as the Generoso, but it stands out with its fuller intensity and chewy texture. Each part of the smoking experience that this incredible cigar offers, is a journey, offering complexity without overwhelming. At $18, it’s a premium cigar that delivers a layered and satisfying experience. It’s one we’d happily light up again.
